Advancing President Bio’s Job Creation Agenda:Commissioner Ndomahina Champions Green Jobs and Youth Empowerment in Bonthe...

*Bonthe City, Sierra Leone — August 6, 2025*

In a powerful demonstration of Sierra Leone’s commitment to inclusive development and environmental stewardship, Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), visited Bonthe City to spotlight the transformative impact of the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component under the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project.

The visit marked a milestone in the rollout of one of the nation’s most ambitious social protection programs—designed to combat youth unemployment while advancing climate-smart infrastructure and ecosystem restoration.

The GPW initiative engages vulnerable youth in labor-intensive public works such as tree planting, drainage rehabilitation, and city beautification. These activities provide immediate income support while fostering long-term environmental sustainability and community resilience. He spoke directly with beneficiaries, listening to their experiences and reaffirming the commitment His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio to inclusive, people-centered development.

*“On behalf of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone – Dr Julius Maada Bio, we are creating jobs for young people across the country,”* said Commissioner Ndomahina *“Under the GPW sub-component, we previously engaged 3,000 youth across provincial cities. We’ve now enrolled an additional 4,000 beneficiaries. The impact is visible, the commitment is uncompromising, and our engagement with donors remains intensive. This is more than just a job—it’s a movement. We are investing in people, in dignity, and in the future of our natural heritage. Bonthe is showing the country what green growth looks like when communities lead the way.”*

The Commissioner’s visit also served as a platform for strategic dialogue with local authorities, civil society organizations, and technical teams. Discussions centered on strengthening implementation fidelity, enhancing gender-responsive targeting, and scaling up innovations emerging from the pilot.

Community leaders, including the mayor and city staff, praised the initiative for its tangible impact on livelihoods and its alignment with Sierra Leone’s broader goals for climate adaptation, youth empowerment, and inclusive growth.

As the PSSNYE project scales across districts, NaCSA is intensifying its focus on transparency, accountability, and participatory monitoring. Commissioner Ndomahina’s visit signals a renewed push to ensure that every shovel of earth moved under the Green Public Works banner contributes to a more resilient and equitable Sierra Leone.

*For the youth of Bonthe, the message was clear: their labor is not just building infrastructure—its building hope.*
