NaCSA, Bombali District Office, Techno Road, Makeni;
Saturday 17th February 2024 -
The sounds of the drums were amplified, the majestic moves of sons and daughters of the Northern City of Makeni were in line with the rhythm of the flute, the traditional display depicts royalty, even those who cannot understand the tribal interpretation of the songs were dancing. This was the atmosphere as the Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) Chief Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina pays a courtesy visit to the Mayor of the Makeni City Council - Abu Bakarr Kamara and the people of Makeni City.
Following the alignment of the Commission’s interventions with the country’s national development plan (the big five game changers) initiated by His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio, the Commissioner of NaCSA has not only aligned the interventions of the Commission with this national development framework, he has taken concrete steps to engage citizens on the details of the ‘’Feed Salone’’ agenda and the need to work together in achieving these aspirations.
In January this year, the Commissioner and his team met with all chairpersons of district councils, mayors of city councils, Chief Administrators and other administrative staff. The essence of these meetings was to Build the capacity of local councils and identify their roles and responsibilities in Implementing development programmes.
The Makeni visit is a follow-up on the many issues agreed during the workshop. As part of his traditional presentation, the Commissioner presented ‘kola nut’, water and ‘’Bora’ to the people of Makeni through the Mayor. ‘’On behalf of the President – His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio, I presented this Kola nut as a symbol of respect, honor, peace and national cohesion.’’ Chief Ndomahina noted.
In his welcome statement, the Mayor of Makeni city council – His Worship the Mayor, Abu Bakar Kamara reiterated the need for national unity and cohesion. *‘’…it is an opportunity to host the Commissioner of NaCSA, a man who has not only changed the face of NaCSA and the relationship between the Commission and the Councils. For us here, we see you as a special person with the potential to enhance national cohesion and lead this country into a sustainable peace. We pray that God gives His Excellency the President Dr Julius Maada Bio the wisdom to continue identifying people like you to bring us together as a country. From the bottom of our hearts as the people of Makeni and the northeast, we welcome you to this beautiful and the cleanest city. Kindly tell his excellency that we are his children and that we want to let him know that the road that leads to the government hospital needs urgent attention.’’* He noted.
In his statement, Chief Ambassador Ndomahina thanked the mayor and people of Makeni for the honor bestowed on him. He noted that the Feed Salone agenda of His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio is inclusive and does not speak ethnicity, regionalism or political party, it was designed by Sierra Leoneans for Sierra Leoneans devoid of affiliation. He highlighted the ongoing projects at the Commission noting that *‘’the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP), the Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation and Youth Employment (GPC-YE), the Sierra Leone Community Demand Driven (SLCCDD) project and the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project are up and running effective. Iet me reassured and on behalf of His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio, the councils including the Makeni City Council are a critical part of our interventions. I don’t want to wet your appetite because this is a courtesy call but I have with me the engineer and Program Manager of the exclusively government funded CDD Project. Be rest assured that the big five game changers agenda is leaving no one behind.’’* He noted.
‘’We thank you for the visit and we want to see you every day. Please extend our messages to the President, His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio.’’ The attendees chatted.
