*Thursday 10th July, 2025, Portloko City* - As part of the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project, the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) officially handed over 18 tricycles to the provincial cities of Port Loko, Makeni, and the New Sembehun City Council in Koindu. This strategic intervention forms part of broader government efforts to promote inclusive economic development and youth empowerment across Sierra Leone.
The formal handing-over ceremony was presided over by theHonorablee Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Tamba Lamina, who reiterated the government's commitment to decentralization and equitable development. He disclosed plans to restructure the capital by subdividing Freetown, elevating Lungi to a recognized locality, and creating additional districts to improve service delivery and local governance.
Minister Lamina emphasized that job creation remains a top priority for the administration, assuring citizens that tangible policies and programs like the PSSNYE project are designed to uplift communities and provide employment for all Sierra Leoneans.
NaCSA Commissioner Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina also addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio for laying the foundation for national development. Commissioner Ndomahina highlighted that the government’s ambitious goal to create 500,000 jobs is not only realistic but attainable through strategic interventions like GPW and donor-backed initiatives. He revealed that over 100 young people are currently participating in a two-week training program under the Economic Inclusion component of the PSSNYE project, designed to equip them with practical skills and entrepreneurial tools.
Commissioner Ndomahina reaffirmed NaCSA’s readiness to seek additional support for the expansion of the project, underscoring the importance of sustained partnerships for long-term impact.
The Senior Director for the National Social Protection Secretariat, Idris Turay, indicated that the results of the PSSNYE remain visible.
The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of the NaCSA Board Chairman and fellow board members, who made valuable contributions during the event. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on NaCSA, Hon. Abdul Latif Sesay, commended the Commissioner and NaCSA team for their dedication and success in implementing the program. He called for continued government and stakeholder support to bolster development efforts in Port Loko and other beneficiary regions.
Mayors from the respective cities also shared insightful feedback on the impact of the project in their communities. They pledged their full cooperation and commitment to ensuring that the GPW sub-component achieves its intended goals, promising to engage local structures for effective implementation and sustainability.
The handing-over ceremony marked a significant milestone in advancing inclusive development and youth engagement in Sierra Leone's provincial hubs. Through collaborative leadership, donor support, and grassroots participation, the PSSNYE project continues to foster economic resilience and local transformation across the nation.
