NaCSA Hands over Tricycles to Bo, Bonthe, and Kenema in Continued Push for Youth Employment and Climate Action...


*Bo City Council – Friday 11th July 2025* - In a vibrant ceremony held at the Bo City Council, the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), with support from the World Bank under the Green Public Works (GPW) sub-component of the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project, officially handed over tricycles and equipment to three provincial cities—Bo, Bonthe, and Kenema. The initiative marks a continued commitment to creating sustainable jobs, increasing government visibility, and responding to local climate challenges through green, labor-intensive approaches.


The event was hosted by His Worship Mayor Kobba Musa of Bo, who praised the initiative and reaffirmed his city council’s unwavering support for the national development agenda championed by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio. *“This intervention is a testament to the government’s dedication to uplifting communities through inclusive development,”* Mayor Musa remarked.


Echoing his sentiments, Mayor Robinson of Bonthe highlighted the impact the GPW initiative has had on visibility and service delivery in his municipality. He noted that sustained efforts like this will significantly curb youth-related challenges and bring lasting change. Kenema’s Deputy Mayor – Md. Rugiatu Koroma joined the chorus of endorsement, urging the President to continue working with visionary leaders like NaCSA Commissioner Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, whom he credited for connecting communities more directly with the government.


Members of the NaCSA Board of Directors were present at the event, reinforcing their support for the initiative. Board Chairman Hon. Mohamed EK Allie reassured government officials and local councils that the board would continue providing strategic guidance and technical expertise to strengthen project outcomes. Bo District Council Chairman Victor Hindowa expressed profound gratitude to President Bio, commending his efforts to fulfill promises made to the people of Bo and the wider southern province. *“What we’re witnessing here today is more than equipment delivery—its proof that our leadership is responsive and visionary,”* Hindowa stated.


In declaring the purpose of the meeting, the Senior Director and National Coordinator – Mr Idris Turay clarified the purpose of the event: *to officially deliver tricycles to Bo, Bonthe, and Kenema as part of the GPW implementation. With six tricycles allocated to each city, the gesture symbolizes a hands-on approach to empowering youth and enhancing public services.*


Commissioner Ndomahina emphasized that the PSSNYE plays a critical role in achieving the government’s goal of creating 500,000 jobs.* *“This is more than symbolic—this is a commitment in action,”* he declared. He went on to thank His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio for his enduring support and responsiveness to grassroots needs. He further shared data reflecting the broader impact of NaCSA’s work under the PSSNYE umbrella:


Over 6,000 youth previously employed under GPW and the Sustainable Cash Transfer (SCfW), Preparations underway to engage an additional 4,000 young people, 120 Business Development Officers and Coaches currently in training, 30 Community-Based Facilitators and Assistants already on boarded, more than 6,000 beneficiaries employed through the GPW initiative in Freetown alone, NAYCOM is also preparing grant for hundreds of young people. *‘’In total, the PSSNYE is to reach 100,000 beneficiaries nationwide’’* Commissioner Noted.


*“This is just one project—and we’ve only just begun,”* Commissioner Ndomahina affirmed, positioning the intervention as a model for expansion across Sierra Leone.


The event concluded with enthusiastic commitments from all participants and stakeholders to ensure that the PSSNYE Project continues to deliver measurable impact and meaningful change in the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
