NaCSA and Experts from German Development Bank (KFW) Monitors the Construction of 64.9m Bridge at Kaokor Crossing points in Kono District...

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Commissioner for the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, along with a team of experts from both NaCSA and the German Development Bank (KFW), completed a joint monitoring visit to the Koakor Bridge construction project.

The Koakor Bridge is a significant infrastructure initiative in Kono District, strategically linking the Gbense and Sandor chiefdoms and connecting to the newly established Falaba District.

During the visit, on behalf of *H.E President Dr. Julius Maada Bio,* Commissioner Ndomahina highlighted the bridge's crucial role in realizing the aspirations outlined in the Feed Salone initiative. He explained that it would connect farms to markets, improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, and enhance access to healthcare for local communities. He also noted that rising water levels at the crossing point necessitated a technical decision to extend the bridge by an additional meter to prevent future disruptions.

The Koakor Bridge is part of a comprehensive effort to enhance infrastructure and promote economic development in the region.

Kono District Council Chairperson Augustine Sahr Sheku expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the 64.9-meter bridge at the Koakor crossing point. He stated, *"This project, funded through German Financial Cooperation via KFW Development Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone, represents a significant advancement in improving transportation, economic activities, and access to essential services for our communities."* He further praised the engineers and workers for their dedication to ensuring the bridge is completed on schedule, emphasizing the National Commission for Social Action's (NaCSA) role in overseeing the project and ensuring compliance with all technical and safety standards.

Michael Nogues, the technical leader from Eco Consultant, was also part of the team. He emphasized, *"At Eco Consultant, we prioritize sustainability and efficiency in infrastructure projects. Monitoring this bridge construction ensures that we adhere to environmental best practices while delivering a durable and safe structure for the community. Our team remains committed to innovative solutions that enhance connectivity and economic growth."*

This project is supported by German Financial Cooperation through KFW Development Bank, reinforcing Sierra Leone's commitment to improving rural infrastructure.
