*Freetown, Sierra Leone - 22nd June 2026.*
The Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), Ernest Ndomahina, on Saturday, 20th June 2026, joined His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, cabinet ministers, heads of parastatals, paramount chiefs, and residents of Kailahun District for the commissioning of the newly constructed Manowa Bridge in Peje Chiefdom, Kailahun District.
The bridge, which spans approximately 181.1 metres, serves as a vital link between Kailahun and Kono Districts, significantly improving connectivity between communities that have long faced transportation challenges, particularly during the rainy season.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Bio reaffirmed his government’s commitment to expanding critical infrastructure across the country as part of its broader agenda to promote economic growth, improve access to markets, and enhance the livelihoods of rural communities.
The Manowa Bridge is expected to play a transformative role in facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services between the two districts. It will particularly benefit farming communities by providing easier access to markets, reducing transportation costs, and minimizing post-harvest losses. The improved road network is also expected to stimulate local trade, increase agricultural productivity, and create new economic opportunities for residents in the region.
Commissioner Ndomahina commended the Government of Sierra Leone and its development partners for investing in infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of rural populations. He noted that improved connectivity is essential for fostering inclusive development, strengthening local economies, and enhancing access to social services.
The bridge was funded by the World Bank through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security as part of efforts to improve rural infrastructure and support agricultural development across the country.
The commissioning of the Manowa Bridge marks another significant milestone in the government’s drive to strengthen national infrastructure and promote sustainable socio-economic development, particularly in underserved and agriculturally productive communities.
