The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) on April 7th, 2026 officially concluded the April 2026 Implementation Support Mission on the Productive Social Safety Nets and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) Project. The closing session marked the culmination of weeks of intensive engagements between NaCSA, the World Bank, and key government stakeholders, focused on reviewing progress, addressing operational challenges, and strengthening collaboration for this flagship initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Susan Robert, delivered an assuring statement that underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to the project. She remarked: *“On behalf of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, I wish to reaffirm our collective resolve to ensure that the PSSNYE Project continues to deliver meaningful opportunities for our young people, while strengthening social protection systems that safeguard the most vulnerable in Sierra Leone. This mission has reinforced our determination to consolidate gains, expand coverage, and build resilience for communities across the nation.”*
Dr. Robert further reflected on the legacy of the late Dr. Abu Kargbo, the Senior Social Protection Specialist and Technical Team Lead for the PSSNYE Project, whose vision and dedication shaped the program’s trajectory. *“As we mourn his passing, we must ensure that the legacy of Dr. Abu Kargbo continues. His work laid a strong foundation, and sustaining it will require additional funding and collective resolve,”* she emphasized.
Asha Williams, the World Bank’s Co Task Team Lead for the PSSNYE Project, commended the progress achieved during the mission and assured the delegation of the Bank’s continued technical support. She highlighted that sustained collaboration between NaCSA, the Government of Sierra Leone, and development partners remains critical to ensuring that the project delivers lasting impact for the people of Sierra Leone.
The closing ceremony drew the participation of heads of government ministries, departments, and agencies, reflecting the broad national ownership of the PSSNYE Project. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to advancing social protection, promoting economic inclusion, and empowering young people as part of Sierra Leone’s development agenda.
The April 2026 mission concluded with renewed confidence in the partnership between NaCSA and the World Bank, setting the stage for deeper collaboration, expanded resources, and strengthened systems to drive inclusive growth and resilience for communities across the country.
