NaCSA House, 21st February 2023* – A team of experts from the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) on Saturday 17th February 2024 conducted a technical assessment of Government Secondary School, Koyeima (GSSK).
It could be recalled that on Saturday, February 09, 2024, a destructive fire engulfed the premises of GSSK leaving five classrooms, one Library/Laboratory and one food store building beyond repair.
A community-driven strategy has been implemented by NaCSA to improve socio-economic development projects as part of the development paradigm and to promote community-based and appropriate development programs. Only the Government of Sierra Leone provides funding for the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP). It is a community-based intervention created to address requests associated with the building, reconstruction, and renovation of community facilities that communities submit to the Commission through community structures.
NaCSA intends to use the CDDP approach to reconstruct a new ultra-modern building for the Government Secondary School in Koyeima. The Senior Director of support Services, the Programme Manager of CDDP and the Engineer for the CDD Project were part of the delegation. According to Engineer Mohamed Gardon Bah, the team of experts who visited the school has made preliminary conclusions and necessary steps have been taken to secure funds, hence the commencement of work as soon as possible. *‘’ As it is, the building was destroyed beyond repair. The safest step is for it to be reconstructed with additional facilities. This is going to be very serious work and we hope that we will secure funding for reconstruction.’’* He ended.
*‘’Upon hearing the unfortunate incident, the Commissioner of NaCSA, Amb. Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina instructed us to immediately conduct an expert assessment. Our assignment is to develop a bill of quantity for possible reconstruction of the affected building. We can’t make conclusions as to the causes of the fire outbreak, but efforts were made to stop it's widespread.’’* The Programme Manager for the CDD Project, Mr. Patrick Lebbie noted.
At the end of the assessment, the Senior Director of Support Services at NaCSA reiterated the continued efforts of the Commission in ensuring that government commitment to community development is sustained. *’’We will come back to Koyeima after thorough engagement at headquarters. We are hopeful that we will be able to mobilise the needed resources within the shortest possible time. Let me restate that we are here with the Commissioner’s approval and the findings of today’s engagement will be equally communicated.’’* He noted.
