Strengthening Sierra Leone’s Social Protection Space: A Call for Donor Partnership...

Updated: 2 days ago

*On January 6, 2026*, the Director General of the National Social Protection Authority (NSPA), Mr. Abu Bockarie Kokofele, bid farewell to Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). This occasion marked the conclusion of a five month period during which NaCSA hosted NSPA, providing critical strategic support to enhance the Authority’s institutional capacity and reinforce Sierra Leone’s social protection landscape.

During his remarks, Mr. Kokofele expressed heartfelt appreciation to NaCSA’s leadership and staff for their generosity and commitment. From office space to furniture and technical guidance, NaCSA’s support exemplified the spirit of collaboration that is vital for strengthening national systems. *“This is an indication that the social protection space is healthy,”* Mr. Kokofele noted, underscoring the importance of unity among actors working to safeguard vulnerable populations.

The Director General reaffirmed NSPA’s dedication to working hand in hand with all social protection stakeholders. He announced the Authority’s relocation to its new office at 12 Regent Road, inviting donor partners, civil society organizations, and development institutions to engage directly with NSPA. *“We are open to working with like minds to strengthen social protection interventions across the country. This cannot be achieved in isolation—we need your support; financial, technical, and other means necessary,”* Mr. Kokofele emphasized.

In his goodwill message, Ambassador Ndomahina reassured NSPA of NaCSA’s continued collaboration. He acknowledged the challenges facing the Authority, including office infrastructure and funding gaps, but pledged ongoing partnership in mobilizing donor support. *“Collaboration and meetings with donor partners will continue,”* he affirmed, highlighting the commitment of His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio to ensuring that social protection services remain constant and impactful.

By investing in NSPA, donors and partners contribute directly to safeguarding livelihoods, promoting equity, and advancing national development goals. The farewell event was more than a symbolic transition—it was a rallying cry for collective responsibility. As NaSPA embarks on its new chapter, the Authority invites donor partners, international agencies, and local institutions to join hands in building a resilient social protection system that leaves no one behind.

Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and ensure that Sierra Leone’s most vulnerable citizens receive the protection and support they deserve.
