*The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hails Progress at NaCSA, says the
The Commissioner for the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) – Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina, on Tuesday 17th September 2024, received the Deputy Speaker of Parliament – Honourable Ibrahim Tawa Conteh. Critical matters relating to the national development plan, capacity building, and the rebranding process of NaCSA were discussed, amongst others.
In his welcome note, the Commissioner noted that NaCSA has successfully aligned its project implementation with the Big Five Game Changers of His Excellency Dr Julius Maada Bio. He said that the Commission is working assiduously with the Government of Sierra Leone and donor partners in providing social relief programmes and promoting community-based, demand-driven and sustainable development activities. The aim, he emphasized, is to alleviate poverty and improve the speed, quality and impact of development initiatives.
*‘’…We are currently implementing the Sierra Leone Community Demand-Driven Project (SLCDDP- GIENTRENK), The GIETRENK project, funded by the Islamic Development Bank, aims to reduce poverty and improve rural well-being by providing socio-economic opportunities. The PSSNYE project, funded by the Government of Sierra Leone and the World Bank, aims to enhance access to social safety nets and income opportunities for 100,000 beneficiaries. The CDDP is a government-funded initiative focusing on constructing, reconstructing, and rehabilitating community facilities in rural areas. The Rapid Community Development Initiative (RACODI) Project aims to address the divide between citizenry and government by establishing a Special Fund to finance small-scale community projects. The Promotion of Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation and Youth Empowerment (GPCYE) program, is aimed at improving employment and income for youth.’’* Amb. In his statement, the Honourable Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Tawa Conteh noted that he is impressed with the speed, accuracy and efficiency at NaCSA. *‘’I am here in the capacity of Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Public Account Committee (PAC). We have seen how NaCSA has transitioned, and we also have seen the impact of the Commission but having development experts like Ambassador Ndomahina and Chief Songa has repositioned NaCSA to deliver on its Pro-poor mandate. We will continue delivering the aspirations as outlined in the Medium-Term National Development Plan…’’* He noted.
In closing, Susan Robert – the Senior Director for Programme Development and Quality Assurance (SD-PDQA) thanked the Honourable Deputy Speaker for the visit and the Commission yearned to experience more of it. *‘’This is the second time I am seeing you in person, the first was when NaCSA presented its budget, and the way you technically handled the session was inspiring. Be rest assured that the appointment of Ambassador Ndomahina as Commissioner of NaCSA was the genesis of reformation at the Commission. We have a Gem whose mission is to deliver on the President’s desires for this country.’’* She ended.
